The Milan of the Napoleonic age has enjoyed over time a large historiographical fortune, thanks to the civil value of many of the proposals that interested that brief but intense experience in which the Lombard city played the role of capital, first of the Cisalpine Republic, then of the Italian Republic and finally of the Kingdom of Italy. In these years Milan was in fact the subject of an urban and architectural rethinking that involved different sectors of the city and that this book traces in the light of new research and starting from eight main places: the customs wall, Piazza del Duomo, the Royal Palace, the headquarters of the Ornate Commission, the Villa Bonaparte, the green system of Porta Orientale, the Brera Palace and the Bonaparte Forum. Places that constituted centers of power, cultural poles or fulcrums of associated life, receiving an imprint, in the urban structure or in civil architecture, destined to orient the future developments of the city and largely still recognizable in today's Milan.
