Description: This volume accompanies the exhibition documenting the centuries-old cultural relations between the Near East and Europe, starting with the recovery of the Greek philosophical and scientific tradition through Arabic sources, the publication of the imposing polyglot Bibles that flanked the Greek and Latin texts with the more ancient Hebrew and Arabic ones, and the translations of the Koran. In the latter case, the Italian translation of 1547, the "Alcoran of Macometto", which takes up the Latin one dating back to the twelfth century commissioned by Peter the Venerable, will be placed next to the first true critical western edition published in Padua by Ludovico Marracci in 1698. One section will be devoted to the Arabic editions of the Stamperia Medicea which, from the end of the 16th century, alternated the printing of liturgical books with that of Arabic dictionaries and grammars. A second section will focus on the more than twenty Arabic codices donated to the Braidense around 1826 by the explorer and archaeologist Giuseppe Acerbi.
